Vacation Bible School is BIG here at Belin Memorial!

by Jane Sparks
Director of Programs

One of the many wonderful things that I love about summer is Vacation Bible School at Belin Memorial! Just to be around such youth and enthusiasm always strengthens me. However, the most important reason that I love Vacation Bible School is that I can see God at work on the faces of the children, the youth workers, and the adult volunteers! God brings so many wonderful volunteers to us to make sure that His children are “fed” and nourished in the Word and that His love abounds! This year for the week of June 25-29, our theme is “Maker Fun Factory – Created by God – Built for a Purpose.” The VBS team and I pray that each child will know that God has a purpose for them and that He loves them.

VBS is “big” here at Belin! Many hours of planning have already taken place. However, we are still in need of a few more volunteers. Should you feel that God is calling you to volunteer and be blessed by these precious children, you may contact me at or call 843.357.5185.

You may register rising Kindergarten – 5th graders online at The VBS team would like to ask that you please keep the children, the youth, and the volunteers in your prayers as we prepare for and participate in our Maker Fun Factory Vacation Bible School. I would like to also thank Amy Wates and Emeline Jordan for coordinating this experience for the children!

Something Was Happening - the Holy Spirit Was Moving!

Belin Memorial UMC strives to be a church where the people of God are actively sharing the love of Jesus Christ. We look for places where people are in need of love and hope.

As we drive around Murrells Inlet, we see tents in the woods, providing minimal shelter. We see the people who call these tents their home, hiding on the margins in plain sight. . .

Grandparenting and Easter

-by B. Mike Alexander, Jr.

During this holy season I’ve been very busy, but don’t feel too sorry for me. I’ve also had some fun grandparenting time.

Last weekend, our daughter and son-in-law brought their two little girls, ages 2 years 4 months (Madison) and 1 year 5 months (Mallory), for a visit. And while their parents left the girls with us last Thursday evening, Betsy and I had such a good time. It was so much fun.

But siblings will be siblings, and the two little girls got into shoving each other. They both wanted the same toy at the same time. I suppose the tone of my voice startled them as I called them down. They both started crying immediately.

First Impressions

by B. Mike Alexander

What a wonderful day of worship we had this past Sunday in The Sanctuary (and, I know, in The Harbor, as well). The weather was spring-like, the music was expressive and inspiring, and we had two beautiful children baptized into the family of God. Everything just felt right.

But Monday morning I sat down at my computer and read a blistering email . . .
